Calvin Harris Is Counting Down To Announce Something Big Tomorrow
Calvin Harris is doing some cryptic stuff on Twitter. Mainly slowly counting down in emoji form. While some people have very firmly posited that this will be new music we actually are a little more up in the air. Mostly because of the way Calvin has been pushing ‘Slide’ recently. We have seen behind the scenes videos on how it produced, as well as a massive marketing push. What haven’t we seen though?
That’s right, a video. Calvin almost always produces a music video for his hit tracks. ‘Slide’ has been a massive success with some of the biggest stars in the game right now. It would be downright insane not to release a video to be honest. So hey while we have no idea, and think it is kind of insane to declare there is a definitive answer to this little mystery, keep your eyes peeled for midnight tonight. We might just get some new music, video or even a tour.

Here’s what’s verifiable from reporting at the time: the countdown played out over three days on Calvin’s Twitter, going from three wave emoji on March 25th to two on March 26th to a single wave on March 27th, with outlets covering it (Capital FM among them) framing it as pointing to a reveal on March 28th. Fans at the time speculated it could be anything from the long-teased ‘Slide’ music video to a brand new track to a possible collaboration with Ellie Goulding.
So what actually dropped? A few days after this countdown wrapped, on March 31, 2017, Calvin Harris released “Heatstroke,” the follow-up single to “Slide,” featuring Young Thug, Pharrell Williams, and Ariana Grande. It became the second single off his fifth studio album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, which leaned all the way into that sun-drenched, funk-and-disco-inspired sound he’d been teasing throughout the “Slide” campaign. Turns out the wave emoji were a pretty on-the-nose hint after all — “Heatstroke” and the whole Funk Wav era were drenched in exactly that kind of beachy, summer energy.
