Dillon Francis Models Zach Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns” In Brand New Web Series [VIDEOS]

The deep house monolith, DJ Hanzel, otherwise known as Dillon Francis, sits down with some of the world’s biggest DJs in an effort to have them go ‘one deeper’ in exclusive interviews.

Dillon Francis teamed up with TBS Digital for the web series ‘One Deeper Talks’ and has interviewed some of his colleagues including Calvin Harris, Alesso, Kaskade, What So Not, Jauz, Tokimonsta and Flosstradamus.

The series marks Dillon Francis’s first real foray into hosting his own interview show, and it’s exactly as chaotic and self-aware as you’d expect from the guy behind “Hoedown” and the DJ Hanzel alter ego. Just like Zach Galifianakis’ original “Between Two Ferns,” the whole gag is that Dillon, in character as Hanzel, asks his guests deliberately awkward, semi-insulting, and off-the-wall questions while everyone involved keeps a completely straight face. TBS Digital picked the series up as part of their push into short-form web content aimed squarely at younger, internet-native audiences, and tapping Dillon Francis for it made a lot of sense given how much of his brand outside the studio is built on comedy and goofing around, whether that’s his prank-heavy YouTube channel or his general reputation as one of dance music’s biggest class clowns.

What makes ‘One Deeper Talks’ worth watching beyond the bit is the guest list. Getting Calvin Harris, Alesso, Kaskade, What So Not, Jauz, Tokimonsta, and Flosstradamus to all sit down and play along with the format is a pretty stacked lineup for a web series, and it says something about how well-liked and well-connected Dillon is within the scene that artists at that level were willing to hand over a few minutes to be roasted, gently, on camera.
