Tchami‘s record label; Confession, recently debuted a detonating new Malaa single; ‘Contagious'. The identity of Malaa is highly contested, since he (she?) only performs wearing a mysterious ski mask. This ski mask has become the mysterious DJ's symbol and is seen everywhere on his soundcloud, where he ironically and frequently debuts 30 or so minute mixes titled; ‘Who is Malaa?' Now this isn't the first time Malaa and Tchami, both future house extraordinaires, have worked together. Malaa is signed to Tchami's label, Confession and the two put out a collab a few months ago, ‘Prophecy‘, which is one of our favorites from both dj's. Aditionly, the two have toured together on the Pardon My French tour along with DJ Snake and Mercer. There is speculation that both Snake and Mercer could be the DJ behind the ski Mask, but nothing is for certain.
The song starts off in typical tech-house fashion, heavy 808's and mysterious bass lines. Surely, the title word ‘Contagious' is featured and repeated throughout the build. The track drops in tune with most tech-house tracks, with a beat of negative space, followed by the same ‘Contagious' lyric. After the drop, we feel the track is almost reminiscent of a Dirtybird track with that syncopated low synth. The bridge of the song around two and a half minutes in, completes the track perfectly. It returns to a more mysterious vibe that Malaa is known for. All elements of the song are removed for this bridge, other than the melodic synth line. Slowly and one by one, each other element of the song is added back in, plus some, to build to yet another drop. All in all, a perfect new track to add to Malaa's ever expanding discography. We can't wait to hear this song played out during this summers festival season and beyond.
