Sonny Moore Confirms He Is Not Retiring The Skrillex Project
It was one of the hottest rumors in the world of dance music a few weeks ago. There apparently was a lot of evidence floating around that Sonny Moore, better known as his EDM moniker Skrillex was leaving his famous project behind to return to hit band, From First to Last. We ran an article more or less debunking the claim, pointing out the many reasons why it was in fact false. But yesterday on the red carpet of the Grammy’s we got a definitive answer.
For anyone who needs a refresher on the backstory: Moore was actually From First to Last’s frontman first, screaming his way through the band’s 2006 post-hardcore record “Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount” before vocal problems started forcing the band to bail on tours. After going through vocal surgery in 2007, he made the call to leave the group for good and started messing around with production instead. That side project turned into Skrillex by 2010, and, well, the rest is dance music history.
Skrillex talks about how is officially reuniting with his band, From First to Last after a several year hiatus in order to focus on dance music. He also definitively states that his reuniting with FFTL means nothing towards his established work in dance music, and that he plans on continuing to release music under Skrillex for the foreseeable future. For what it’s worth, other outlets covering the same red carpet ran the identical story, confirming Moore had officially rejoined From First to Last’s lineup alongside his Skrillex work — so this wasn’t just idle Grammy’s small talk, it was the real deal, straight from Sonny himself. Either way, dance music fans can breathe easy: Skrillex isn’t going anywhere. He’s just picking up a nostalgic side project on top of an already stacked schedule, and if anything it’s a pretty wholesome full-circle moment for a guy who left screamo to go change electronic music forever.
