Back in 1984, house music quickly rose in popularity with the help of Frankie Knuckles, Phuture, Mr. Fingers and Kym Mazelle. Even though house music has transitioned quite a bit from its early roots, house music continues to gain popularity throughout the years. Among all of the genres in the world, house music artists are some of the most popular artists in the world.

Below are the top 10 most popular house music artists at the moment in no particular order.

1. Flume

Harley Edward Streten, also known as Flume, is an Australian house music producer and DJ. In November of 2012, Flume released his self-titled album Flume and quickly topped the ARIA Albums Chart. Throughout his career, Flume has released countless remixes of Lorde, Disclosure, Arcade Fire and Sam Smith. In May of 2016, Flume dropped his highly anticipated album Skin which went on to be nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Dance Recording for the 2017 Grammys.

2. Diplo

Thomas Wesley Pentz, also known as Diplo, 1/2 half of Jack U and 1/3 of Major Lazer, is an American DJ, producer, rapper, songwriter and musician. Diplo also founded Mad Decent records and is managing it as well. Diplo was nominated for Non-Classical Producer of the Year for the 55th Grammy Awards and 58th Grammy Awards.

3. Porter Robinson

Porter Robinson is an American DJ, record producer, songwriter and musician. Porter Robinson‘s debut album Worlds was released in August of 2014 on Astralwerks and Virgin EMI. The album received rave reviews after transitioning from his electro house style to a more eclectic house style.

Adam Richard Wiles, also known as Calvin Harris, is a Scottish DJ, music producer and songwriter. Back in June of 2007, Calvin Harris released his debut studio album I Created Disco which was released via EMI and Sony BMG. Throughout his career, Calvin Harris has released his song after hit song and became the first British solo artist to reach more than one billion plays on Spotify. Anton Zaslavski, better known as Zedd, is a Russian-born German DJ, record producer and song writer. Zedd‘s best known for his song “Clarity” which featured Foxes. The song was listed at the number 8 position on the Billboard Hot 100. Zedd eventually won the Grammy award for Best Dance Recording for Clarity during the 56th Grammy Awards. On February 23, 2015, Zedd released his album True Colors which featured a collaboration with Selena Gomez. The song was co-written by Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic and KDrew.

6. Tiesto

Tijs Michiel Verwest, better known as Tiesto, is a Dutch record producer, songwriter and DJ. In 1997, Tiesto founded the record label Black Hole Recordings. In 1999 and 2000's, Tiesto created Gouryella with Ferry Corsten. Tiesto was given the opportunity to open the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. In 2013, Tiesto was recognized as the best DJ of the last 20 years by DJ Magazine.

7. Deadmau5

Joel Thomas Zimmerman, better known as deadmau5, is a Canadian producer, songwriter and DJ. Deadmau5's music career began in the late 1990s when chiptune was the main influence of electronic dance music. Throughout his illustrious career, deadmau5 has received six Grammy Award nominations and has worked alongside artists such as Rob Swire, Kaskade and Wolfgang Gartner.

8. Afrojack

Nick van de Wall, better known as Afrojack, is a Dutch record producer, songwriter and DJ. At the young age of five years old, Afrojack began to grow a liking for the piano. Throughout his career, Afrojack created his own record label Wall Recordings. In 2007, Afrojack released “Take Over Control” featuring Eva Simons. The song charted in 10 different countries and continues to be one of the leading songs for the influence of dance music in today's mainstream pop culture.

Marshmello's identity remains unknown, but it is believed to be American DJ Chris Comstock also known as Dotcom. Marshmello is an songwriter, record producer and DJ. Marshmello first gained attention from fans when he released remixes of Zedd, Jack U and created a unique sound unlike any other. His secret identity has helped lead to his popularity as well as the support he's received from artists such as Skrillex.

10. Avicii

Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii, is a Swedish record producer, songwriter and DJ. Throughout his successful career, Avicii has been nominated twice for a Grammy Award. Avicii reached mass popularity after the release of his song “Levels” which currently has more than 256 million plays alone on YouTube. Despite Avicii's break from DJing, Avicii continues to be at the forefront of the house music scene.
