Ghost Producing Contreversary Surrounding A Massive Track

Further Developments on this Post with up to date information can be found here: https://www.edmsauce.com/2016/12/13/developments-redefined-controversy/

tyDi had an absolutely incredible year, coming off of having the most played track on BPM in 2015 [more on that in a second] the Australian producer has continued to make his signature brand of euphoric, jaw dropping trance with massive success. That is why we were all a bit confused here at EDM Sauce when a press release came out about Cold Harbor affiliated artist, Novaspace.

In the press release from SMG (Schulz Music Group) who represents a few other Cold Harbor artists, the group states that Novaspace has been awarded a PLATINUM record from Sirius XM for the hit ‘Redefined' which “which he produced and engineered for Australian artist TyDi.” The include a statement from Novaspace which we included with a cheeky picture of him holding said ‘platinum record' below.

“The last 18 months have been the most exciting of my life. Receiving this accolade – especially at this relatively early stage in my career – though has been the single greatest moment amongst [sic] them. I would like to thank TyDi for hearing something in my music that others at the time didn’t and all at Sirius XM for their support in helping turn ‘Redefined’ into such a hit. I’d also like to pass on my heartfelt appreciation to the Schulz Music Group crew for their belief and backing for everything I do. 2017 is going to be an exciting year. I’m looking forward to bringing you all a whole lot more of what you like!”

Okay so now things get interesting. We were honestly surprised at the candidness of this press release, and it did not feel right. Ghost production, when it is done, is usually a very secretive process filled with several non disclosure agreements. The other thing that should be noted is that tyDi is not exactly the kind of artist you would peg as one who uses a ghost producer as he has several years (like years before EDM was large enough for ghost producing to be common place) behind him of excellent music that have come out on large labels like Armada. Well then we got some answers from tyDi's team.

First and foremost, Novaspace was involved in the release of ‘Redefined' but not as a ghost producer…he was a remixer and collaborator on the club edit of the song. Next let's look at the claim of platinum…which means one million record sales. That is a lot folks, and in the trance genre you need to be absolutely massive to reach that goal. tyDi's manager is the first to admit that while he would love to be able to claim that achievement, ‘Redefined' simply did not sell one million records. In his own words, “we're just not that big yet!” So wait…whatthe hell is Novaspace holding in that picture?

That is not a platinum record award. That is an award given by Sirius XM's station BPM for the most played song of the year (2015). tyDi's management claims that anyone is able to purchase a plaque such as that. We have reached out to SMG for a comment on this matter, so please stay tuned for any developments or updates.
