OWSLA Celebrates 5 Years With Skrillex B2B Baauer, What So Not & More
Five years ago, Skrillex launched OWSLA Records, and the label has been quietly (and not so quietly) revolutionizing dance music ever since. What started as a passion project has turned into one of the most respected imprints in the game, home to some of the most forward-thinking artists and videos in the scene. So naturally, when it came time to celebrate half a decade of OWSLA, the label didn’t just throw a party — they threw a rager.
OWSLA’s 5th birthday weekend brought out an absolutely stacked lineup of the label’s own artists, with performances from Skrillex, What So Not, Oshi, Baauer, Team EZY, Anna Lunoe, Vindata, and Valentino Khan. That’s not even counting the surprise guests: Marshmello, Slushii, and Dillon Francis all stopped by to show love and celebrate with the OWSLA family, turning what was already a can’t-miss lineup into an all-star affair.
OWSLA has never just been about numbers or hype, either — it’s built its reputation by taking chances on unconventional sounds, from trap and future bass to whatever genre-blurring thing its artists want to try next. That willingness to let artists experiment is a big part of why the roster stays this loyal, and why a birthday party built almost entirely around surprise guests came together so easily.
The night was full of the kind of back-to-back sets that only happen when a label’s roster genuinely likes hanging out with each other — Skrillex trading off with Baauer, What So Not linking up for extended jams, and the whole crew clearly having the time of their lives on stage. That energy is exactly why OWSLA has managed to stay so relevant five years in, in a scene where labels come and go every year.
OWSLA themselves put it best in a statement following the celebration: “Thanks to all the artists, managers, directors, producers, promoters, agents, venues, publicists, and most importantly YOU who have supported us for these first 5 years. Here’s to 500 more.”
Five years down, and if this birthday party is any indication, OWSLA shows zero signs of slowing down. Between breaking new artists, pushing bass music forward, and throwing parties this good, the label has more than earned its spot as one of dance music’s most important imprints.
