Deadmau5’s Home Studio Is Finally Complete
After what felt like forever, Deadmau5’s new home production studio is officially finished — and the guy who’s built his career around absurdly detailed, over-engineered setups has once again gone all in.
Martin Pilchner of Pilchner Schoustal International Inc. — the design firm behind the build — posted photos of the completed space, and it’s about what you’d hope for given Deadmau5’s budget and his obsession with getting things exactly right. The studio lives inside Deadmau5’s home in Campbellville, Ontario, the same property that reportedly sold for a reported $5 million in 2014. According to Pilchner Schoustal, the room started life as the house’s master bedroom before going through what the firm describes as a lengthy, dramatic retrofit to turn it into a legitimate professional studio.
The design centers around the monitoring setup — a stereo pair of flush-mounted ATC 300 speakers anchors the room, with ATC 25s handling the ceiling channels. On top of those monitors, Pilchner Schoustal built out a 5.1 and 7.1 mid-field surround system, plus a fully calibrated 11.3 Dolby Atmos setup — which, if you’re keeping score, is a serious amount of overkill for one person’s home studio, and exactly the kind of overkill Deadmau5 fans have come to expect from him. The finished space pairs walnut paneling and geometric fin work with custom-built racks for his synth collection, going for what Pilchner Schoustal describes as a warm, clean look rather than the sterile, all-black studio aesthetic a lot of producers default to.
It’s a pretty far cry from the bedroom studio setups most of us are working with, but it’s also a good reminder of what over a decade of stadium tours and record sales can eventually buy: a room built entirely around getting the mix right, with zero compromises required. Between the acoustic treatment, the surround system, and a monitoring chain most commercial studios would kill for, this isn’t a vanity project — it’s a real working studio built by someone who’s spent years thinking about exactly how he wants his music to translate from the room to the crowd.
