Diplo Confirms India Tour in 2016

A tweet in reply to a fan has revealed that Diplo should be headed to join others like Skrillex to take on India for some shows in the near future – possibly February. Check out this tweet from Diplo on Twitter:

Diplo filmed the video for his hit single “Lean On” with DJ Snake in India and he talked about how much the country means to him.
“India is special and its beauty absolutely humbled me,” Diplo said. “When we toured there as Major Lazer, it was mind blowing to see our fan-base and we wanted to incorporate the attitude and positive vibes into our video and just do something that embodies the essence of Major Lazer. Major Lazer has always been a culture mashup and to us, India feels like some kind of special creature with one foot in history and one firmly in the future. The experience is something we’ll never forget.”

Turns out that tweet wasn’t just a tease. Diplo’s promise checked out — he touched down in India in February 2016 as part of the debut run of his Mad Decent Block Party tour, bringing his signature festival brand to the country for the first time. It was a natural next step after “Lean On” turned India into more than just a backdrop for a music video; the song’s massive local following, paired with the goodwill Major Lazer built while filming there, made it clear there was a real audience waiting for him.
It’s not hard to see why Diplo keeps coming back to India, either. He’s talked openly about how the “Lean On” shoot changed his perspective on the country, and that affection has clearly stuck — India has remained a recurring stop on his and Major Lazer’s touring schedule in the years since, well beyond that first Mad Decent run. For a producer known for chasing sounds and scenes all over the globe, India ended up becoming one of his most meaningful long-term relationships as an artist.
Meanwhile, “Lean On” itself only kept climbing in cultural relevance after this tweet. The Major Lazer and DJ Snake collaboration, featuring MØ, became one of the defining dance tracks of the decade, racking up billions of streams and cementing itself as a genre-crossing hit years after its 2015 release. Considering it’s also the song that helped kickstart Diplo’s love affair with Indian audiences in the first place, it’s fitting that it’s the track tying this whole story together.
