Washington D.C. will be filled with tons of deep house and future house when Shaun Frank, along with Oliver Heldens, Cazzette and Loud Luxury take to Echostage this Friday. Prior to the upcoming show, I was able fire away some questions to the DJ/Producer about his upcoming releases, his favorite tracks and even about his dance skills. Check it out below!
Since we last spoke at Firefly Music Fest back in June, You’ve had a #1 hit with ‘Shades of Grey’, embarked on your ‘Shades of Summer Tour’ and just got booked for the main stage at TommorwWorld, among many others…Congrats on the success. Have you had any time to just take it all in?
“It's been an awesome summer and it's looking like its gonna be an even crazier fall. I've got 3 amazing tours lined up, some awesome Halloween stuff planned, and I couldn't be more excited about the music I'm about to release! I wake up every day thankful that this is what my life is shaping up to be. I make a point of always stopping and appreciating the awesome that's occurring.”
You teased the fans with a preview of some Steve Aoki X Shaun Frank music from when you were in Ibiza. What can you tell me about that? When can we expect to see this music released?
“Yeah! We're just laying down a new vocal for it now…and then it should be ready for release. I have, however, been playing the track as it is live and it's been a high point of my set every time. Super pumped for this one.”
You also did a live stream on the making of your Duke Dumont remix which was awesome. Is there a release date set for that yet?
“Well…I just found out today that Duke is down with it, which was News I was waiting for. He's one of my favorite artists and I was super nervous about what his feedback might be. Big relief to find out he likes it! Not sure exactly when it's gonna come out…maybe it's already out by the time this interview airs!”
When you a working on producing a track how long does it usually take to put together an original track, remix or a collaboration?
“Remixes usually happen the quickest cause there's already something to work with…collabs can actually come together quickly sometimes too because you have someone to bounce your ideas off, and it's easier to make decisions…it's my solo tracks that I tend to pine over for months…but it's worth it.”
What’s next for you as far as new music? Who have you been working with?
“I've got a really cool track dropping with KSHMR & Delaney Jane…probably one of my favourite tracks I've ever worked on.”
Currently, what are your Top 5 favorite tracks?
“Tough tough question, but super quick id say…”
Calvin & disciples – how deep is your love
Some unreleased SNBRN shit I just heard
Hunter Siegel w/ Delaney Jane Still Waiting
Hi-Lo – Renegade Mastah
And this Jack U Alunageorge record is straight fire
Any dream collaborations?
What can we expect from your set at Echostage?
“We'll just have to see…but for sure I'm gonna play some new tunes!”
Can we expect to see you dancing with Oliver Heldens/Hi-Lo on stage? How would you rate your dancing skills?
“I'm a terrible dancer haha…”
