Deadmau5 Crashes DVBBS Set In Montreal With Confetti Cannon
Last night Deadmau5 made a short but chaotic appearance during DVBBS’s set at Îlesoniq Music Festival in Montreal. Deadmau5 had a big confetti cannon with him when he jumped on stage, but soon found out it’s not as easy as it looks to fire. Alex and a production crew member tried to give Deadmau5 a hand, attempting to figure out how to work the massive piece of equipment, only for an unexpected misfire to knock him back. They all appeared to have a good laugh about the whole situation. Check out the video below.

For anyone who needs the cast of characters here: Deadmau5, aka Joel Zimmerman, is one of dance music’s most recognizable names, known as much for his signature mouse-head helmet and Mau5trap label as for production work on tracks like “Ghosts N Stuff” and “Strobe.” He’s also become semi-famous for exactly this kind of unscripted chaos, whether it’s crashing another artist’s set or trolling on Twitter, and this confetti cannon fiasco is a pretty perfect example of both.
DVBBS, the act whose set got crashed, is the Canadian production duo of brothers Christopher and Alexandre van den Hoef, originally from Orangeville, Ontario. They broke through in a massive way with 2013’s “Tsunami,” which went on to be certified platinum, and by the summer of 2015 they were one of Canada’s biggest festival exports, so having Deadmau5 hop up on stage during their set was a real co-sign, misfire and all.
The whole thing went down at Îlesoniq, an outdoor electronic festival held on Montreal’s Île Sainte-Hélène that had only launched the previous year, in 2014, and quickly become one of the city’s marquee summer dance music events. Deadmau5 was on the bill that weekend, and it sounds like he decided a straightforward DJ set wasn’t chaotic enough without a little pyrotechnic assistance for his friends in DVBBS. The internet, naturally, could not get enough of the fallout, memorialized here by DVBBS themselves.
