David Guetta Faces Fan Backlash After Using Live Horse and Offensive Costumes on Dancers at Ibiza Residency

David Guetta has been on a roll lately with dance community backlash surrounding his Wild West themed ‘F**k Me I’m Famous’ residency at Pacha Ibiza. First, fans were outraged with news that Guetta used a LIVE horse for his performance at his residency’s opening party. Even though his reps assured the public safety measures for the horse had been made, including full ear protection and security, more than 9,000 people signed a petition to stop any further performances that included the horse.

As if that wasn’t already enough, fans are outraged to find out that Guetta’s performers have been dressed in ‘Sexy Native American’ costumes. Guetta was blasted with comments from all angles of social media and a promo video for the residency featuring the girls was taken down. The costumes had now been replaced with sexy cowgirl attire.

Of course, Deadmau5 couldn’t resist on jumping in on a little bit of the fun.

According to reports, animal welfare advocates behind the petition raised concerns about the horse’s stress levels given the loud music, flashing lights, and packed crowd of a nightclub environment, arguing that the setting simply isn’t suitable for a live animal regardless of what precautions are taken. Guetta’s team has maintained that proper precautions were followed, though the petition and the wave of criticism that followed suggest a large chunk of the dance community wasn’t convinced.

Deadmau5, never one to hold back an opinion, publicly weighed in against Guetta over the stunt on social media, adding one of the scene’s biggest names to the growing list of critics. Between the horse controversy and the costume backlash, this residency has ended up generating a lot more headlines for its controversies than for the music itself, and it’s put Guetta in the position of having to respond to criticism on two separate fronts within the same week.

Pacha and Guetta’s team did swap out the costumes for cowgirl attire once the backlash over the original outfits picked up steam, which at least shows they were listening to some of the criticism. Whether the horse makes another appearance at future ‘F**k Me I’m Famous’ dates remains to be seen, but with this much attention on the residency already, it’s safe to say fans and critics alike will be watching closely.
