Nile Rodgers Plays on the Street in London as Busker, Earns $20

On a cold Monday morning, Chic frontman Nile Rodgers (also known for his work with Daft Punk and David Bowie) graced a crowd on the streets of London's South Bank to a surprise performance – set up as a busker with some vintage gear and a signature 1960 Stratocaster. As he explains in a number of tweets (below), Rodgers used to play for money on the streets and the experience on Monday ended up earning him more street cred – with enough for about $20 and a “nice breakfast.”

After playing some songs he was known for including some Madonna and Bowie tracks, it seemed like the fans were more responsive to Rodgers' work with Daft Punk – and he noticed. Towards the end when he played the tune “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk, the “coins were flowing.” All in all, the legend made a “respectable £12.30 in just 20 minutes #busking.”

Check out this video uploaded by Dave Rushen and some tweets from Rodgers explaining the incident.
