Diplo Talks Working with Justin Bieber, Madonna, Rihanna, and What’s Next for Major Lazer

Diplo isn't shy with taking on some of the biggest names in the music industry. In a recent interview with the , the DJ sat down to discuss what it's like to work with Rihanna, Madonna, Justin Biieber, and what's next for Major Lazer.

Diplo has one of the hardest work ethics in the game, never seeming to stop working, ‘I work all the time. I’ve got a lot of deadlines to make at the moment. I’m finishing a remix for somebody tonight'. Despite his busy schedule, Diplo assures us Major Lazer will be his main focus for the next few months. After some experimenting the first few times around, Major Lazer is ready to make a serious name for themselves with their third album due out in the next month, ‘It was definitely a hobby the first time. Second time we were just trying to figure out how to make it work. And this time we’re trying to establish Major Lazer as a really big deal and an awesome experience for people'.

Jack U‘s collaboration with Justin Bieber was controversial, yet still welcomed. Working with a pop star who is constantly under the microscope of music fans was Diplo's way to show his versatility in a way that proved critics wrong,

He’s another artist who everyone wants to fail. For me, there’s nothing more middle-finger-in-your-face than to do a really cool record with him. That’s punk, in my opinion.

Collaborating with Madonna was an interesting experience for Diplo. At first, he wasn't terribly into working with her, but wanted to get a vibe from her before he said no. On their first day working together, he instantly realized how much of a trendsetter she was, ‘When we did B**** I’m Madonna, she was like, ‘Yo, let’s hear the craziest s*** you have on your computer right now'.

Diplo managed to stir up a bit of controversy with his cocky comments about working with Rihanna, ‘I was in the studio with Rihanna two weeks ago, still playing the game. I was trying to convince her why she should do so-and-so, and thinking, ‘Lean On is bigger than any of her songs around the world right now. Why am I even sitting here trying to negotiate?'.

He insists it was a mis-quote, but Diplo's confident attitude paired with his desire to take it to a new level continuously keeps him on top of the game.
