To remix a track off of Porter Robinson’s Worlds is no easy task. To remix Porter Robinson’s track “Fellow Feeling” off of Worlds… Well that seems damn near impossible! However, to be “near impossible” is still possible, and despite the odds, a young producer from Argentina by the name of Joorn Bold was up for the challenge. Oh, and believe it or not, he beat the odds. Actually, to say he “beat the odds” does his remix no justice, and to be honest, the remix is insane! By maintaining all of the beautiful elements from Porter’s original and only adding his own progressive house twists and turns, Joorn Bold produced an absolute banger! For anyone who slept on it back in the summer of 2014, Worlds was the album that flipped the script on Porter’s whole sound. He went from the glitchy, robotic dance-pop that made him a Beatport darling to something far more emotional and cinematic — lush synths, video-game-inspired melodies, and a nostalgic streak most producers wouldn’t dare touch. “Fellow Feeling” fits right into that world (pun intended); it’s one of the album’s more understated, atmospheric cuts, which honestly makes it prime remix territory. There’s no massive drop to lean on here, so whoever takes it on has to bring their own personality to the table instead of just chopping up the original and calling it a day.

That’s exactly what makes Joorn Bold’s take stand out. Rather than gutting the track and rebuilding it from scratch, he treats the original with respect, keeping those gorgeous melodic textures intact while layering his own progressive house sensibilities underneath. The result feels less like a remix and more like a natural extension of what Porter built in the first place, just with a heavier low end and a club-ready pulse that makes it a lot easier to drop into a set. For a producer working out of Argentina’s SoundCloud scene, going toe-to-toe with one of Worlds‘ more beloved deep cuts and coming out the other side with something this polished is no small feat.
