Deadmau5 Take Toronto’s Mayor Rob Ford on a Coffee Run

While EDM Sauce tends to stay far away from politics, here is a brand new coffee run featuring Deadmau5 and Canada’s politician, Rob Ford.

Rob Ford has been quite the controversial figure in Canada for the past couple of years. While Rob Ford takes a stand for the working figure, he has been caught on camera smoking crack as well as many other antics.

For context on just how wild the timing of this video was: at the time it was filmed, Ford — then serving as mayor of Toronto — was in the middle of one of the most-covered political scandals in recent Canadian history. In May 2013, both Gawker and the Toronto Star reported on a video that appeared to show Ford smoking what was described as crack cocaine, allegations Ford denied for months before finally admitting, at a November 2013 press conference, that yes, he had smoked crack, saying it happened “probably in one of my drunken stupors, approximately about a year ago.” He refused calls to resign and instead ran for re-election in 2014, though he later withdrew from the mayoral race after being diagnosed with cancer and ran for, and won, a City Council seat instead.

Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman), for his part, has never been shy about weighing in on Toronto minutiae, being a hometown guy himself — he’s talked plenty of trash about Toronto traffic and local bureaucracy over the years, so pairing him with Ford for a coffee run bit was a pretty perfect piece of local, absurdist comedy. Ford passed away in March 2016 at age 46 after an 18-month battle with a rare form of cancer called pleomorphic liposarcoma, so clips like this one are also a strange little time capsule of one of the stranger chapters in Toronto political history.
