Japan Is Set To Overturn Ban On All-Night Dancing in Clubs

Imagine walking into a club and being given a piece of paper that says “No Dancing Please.” The dance ban in Japanese clubs began at the end of 2010 where several clubs in Osaka were targeted by police and shut down. Then in April 2012, DJ Takkyu Ishino was surprised by a police raid in Fukuoka.

The Japanese government committee has unanimously agreed that the strict laws regulating the opening hours of the country’s dance clubs need to be relaxed. In recent years, the anti-prostitution ‘fuzoku' laws have impacted Japan's club culture with night clubs subject to a 1am curfew and a ban on dancing. Now Japan wants to treat clubs like restaurants where they are allowed to stay open until deep into the night.
