UMASS Bans EDM To Try And Stop MDMA Use

[Update: While this ban is a couple of months old, please share your comments below]

What sounds like something straight out of a movie, The University of Massachusetts (UMASS) has banned all electronic music events on its campus in order to deter MDMA usage. The UMASS interim Vice Chancellor, Enky Gelaye said “We have grown even more concerned about the ongoing reports of overdoses…The Molly taking culture at these shows is real and now exceedingly dangerous to the health and safety of concert attendees.”

This decision has not been taken lightly though as the response from students at UMASS has been overwhelming. Students have started petitions and gathered flash mobs to protest this action.

The University also said “Our administrative and student leadership must also take responsibility for creating a safe and positive environment that encourages and cultivates good decision making.”

Do you think banning EDM on a college campus was the right move?
