Savoy

Savoy isn’t your typical electronic act — they’re a full band, and that’s the whole point. Formed in Boulder, Colorado, and now based out of Brooklyn, the trio of producer Gray Smith, guitarist Ben Eberdt, and drummer Mike Kelly built their sound around what they call Electronic Rock Music, or ERM: real drums and guitar fused with techno, dance, and bass music production. It’s a live-band energy running through a dance-floor engine, backed by elaborate lighting and laser production that’s turned their shows into an event.

Since forming in 2009, Savoy has put out two full-length albums and three EPs, building a catalog that leans on collaborators as much as their own chops. Grammy-nominated vocalist Heather Bright and rapper Chali 2na have both lent their voices to Savoy tracks, and the band has worked with names like Grabbitz, Bright Lights, and Sound Remedy along the way. Their 2014 album Self Predator packed in 15 tracks, and 2015’s 1000 Years, released through Monstercat, climbed to #3 on the iTunes Dance chart — a genuine crossover moment for a band straddling rock and EDM.

Savoy’s catalog has run through an impressive stretch of labels, including Monstercat, Spinnin’ Records, Manufactured Music, Rat King Productions, and Firepower Records, and their live show has taken them to Lollapalooza, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, X Games, and Voodoo Experience. They’ve also headlined Red Rocks Amphitheatre — not once, but twice, in 2012 and 2015, a hometown flex for a band that started just down the road in Boulder.

Later singles like “Let You Go” and “Treat Me Right,” the latter featuring Laura Reed, kept the band’s sound evolving while staying true to that rock-meets-dance-floor identity. Savoy carved out a lane that few acts occupy: real musicianship plugged straight into the festival circuit, laser rigs and all. For anyone who thinks EDM and live instrumentation don’t mix, Savoy has spent over a decade proving otherwise.
