GoldFish is the Cape Town duo of Dominic Peters and David Poole, and they’ve built a career out of doing something most electronic acts don’t even try: playing it live. Instead of standing behind laptops, the pair blends DJ sets and production with actual instrumentation — saxophone, keys, live percussion — layered over house and nu-disco grooves, which is exactly why their shows feel more like a band gig than a typical DJ set.
Coming up out of South Africa’s dance scene, GoldFish crossed over internationally on the strength of that live-band-meets-DJ-booth formula, picking up a catalog full of feel-good, sun-soaked tracks that lean jazzy and warm rather than dark or aggressive. It’s a sound that translates just as well to a beach party as it does a festival mainstage, and it’s part of why they’ve been able to headline rooms across Europe, North America, and beyond for years without needing to chase every passing trend in dance music.
GoldFish has stayed steadily on the road, and recent tour runs — including a “Secret GoldFish” run through 2025 and 2026 — show they’re still very much active and still drawing crowds who want that live-instrument energy you can’t get from a standard DJ set. Outlets covering their shows have specifically pointed to the “musical escapism” angle of a GoldFish set, which tracks: these guys are built for good-time, get-lost-in-it dance floors rather than heads-down, serious rave energy.
For a duo that’s been at it for a long stretch now, GoldFish has managed to stay a genuinely fun live proposition rather than a nostalgia act, which says a lot about how well the live-instrumentation approach has aged.
