Fedde Le Grand

Fedde Le Grand is one of the architects of modern Dutch house music, and if you need proof, just say the words “Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit” to literally anyone who was going out in 2006. That single didn’t just do well, it went to number one on the UK Singles Chart, stuck around for 30 weeks, and cracked the top five of the Dutch Top 40. It’s the kind of career-defining record that could’ve boxed in a lesser producer, but Le Grand turned it into a launchpad instead of a ceiling.

Born in the Netherlands in 1977, Le Grand built his career on house music that’s equal parts groove-driven and festival-ready, always polished but never sterile. His albums Output (2009) and Something Real (2016) show a guy who’s kept evolving his production while staying rooted in house fundamentals, and he’s remixed and collaborated across the genre map over two decades in the game. His discography has run through some of the biggest names in dance music distribution, including Spinnin’ Records, Ministry of Sound, Toolroom, Ultra Records, and his own label, Be Yourself.

Le Grand has been a fixture on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list for the better part of two decades, debuting at number 22 back in 2007 and climbing as high as 14th in 2011, a run of longevity plenty of producers half his age would kill for. He’s still ranking on the list today, which says a lot about staying power in a genre that eats trends for breakfast.

These days, Le Grand keeps his connection to fans alive through Darklight Sessions, his long-running radio show that’s still pumping out new episodes packed with fresh house and dance cuts, plus continued touring and festival appearances that show he’s nowhere close to slowing down. Nearly two decades after “Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit” first blew up dancefloors, Fedde Le Grand remains one of the most consistent, respected names to come out of the Dutch house scene.
