Dotcom isn’t a household name the way Marshmello is, but that’s kind of the whole story. Dotcom is one of the earlier aliases used by producer Chris Comstock, the same guy behind the marshmallow-helmet persona that blew up EDM. Before Marshmello became a global phenomenon, Comstock was quietly putting out music under different names, and Dotcom was one of the projects he used to experiment away from the spotlight.

The music released as Dotcom has a rougher, less polished edge than what fans would later hear from Marshmello, which makes sense, it was a different creative space for Comstock to work in before his sound got streamlined into the massive pop-leaning bangers he’s known for now. His last track under the Dotcom name came out in 2015, the same year Marshmello officially arrived on the scene, so in a lot of ways Dotcom feels like a snapshot of an artist figuring out his sound right before everything changed for him.

The Dotcom project has stayed mostly dormant since then. Back in 2019, the Dotcom Twitter account teased new music was on the way, sparking some chatter among fans who track Comstock’s various side projects, but nothing concrete followed. Still, for anyone digging into the history behind one of dance music’s biggest masked acts, Dotcom is a genuinely interesting piece of the puzzle, a reminder that even artists who reach Marshmello-level success usually have a few earlier chapters worth going back and finding.
