Dash Berlin started in 2007 in The Hague as a trio — Jeffrey Sutorius on vocals and out front, with Eelke Kalberg and Sebastiaan Molijn behind the boards. The project’s breakout single, “Till the Sky Falls Down,” turned heads fast and landed them a deal with Armin van Buuren’s Armada Music, and by the early 2010s Dash Berlin was a fixture near the top of DJ Mag’s Top 100, peaking at No. 7 in 2012. Emotional, big-room trance with soaring vocal hooks became the calling card, and tracks like “Waiting,” featuring Emma Hewitt, racked up tens of millions of streams and became festival staples.

The trio’s early studio albums, The New Daylight and #Musicislife, both arrived in 2012 and helped cement Dash Berlin as one of trance’s most bankable live acts, picking up multiple International Dance Music Award nominations and headline slots at events like Ultra Chile and A State of Trance along the way.

Behind the scenes, though, Dash Berlin’s story got complicated. Sutorius split from the project in 2018 over what he called mismanagement, kicking off a years-long trademark battle with Kalberg and Molijn over who actually owned the Dash Berlin name. Ownership flipped more than once — Sutorius won it back in 2019, lost it again in 2021 and briefly performed under his own name, and the alias kept moving through different hands, including a run fronted by Ryan Fieret of Syzz.

The saga finally resolved in Sutorius’s favor: a January 2026 Court of Appeals ruling in The Hague restored his right to perform, produce, and release music as Dash Berlin, and he announced his official return that spring. For longtime trance fans who grew up on “Till the Sky Falls Down” and years of A State of Trance sets, it’s a genuine full-circle moment — the voice and face most associated with Dash Berlin is back behind the name that made him famous, with a new chapter reportedly still being written.
