Above & Beyond
Above & Beyond is a British EDM group formed in 2000, consisting of members Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki. The trio are best known for their trance and progressive house music, which they have been releasing and touring worldwide since 2002. They have won multiple awards throughout their career, including DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll (in which they were ranked #5 in 2015), as well as Grammy and Brit nominations. Above & Beyond are also notable for their work with charities, most notably their support of the organisation War Child. In 2016, they released an album and documentary film titled We Are All We Need, which explored the stories of refugees around the world. Above & Beyond are considered to be one of the most successful dance music acts of all time, with a global following of fans known as “Group Therapy.”
Before they were trance royalty, Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamäki were just two students at the University of Westminster who bonded over a shared obsession with electronic music. Tony McGuinness joined not long after, and by 1999 the three of them had launched their own label, Anjunabeats, mostly just so they’d have somewhere to put their own tracks. That label turned into one of the most important names in dance music, eventually spinning off Anjunadeep and Anjunachill too. Their remix of Chakra’s “Home” was the record that really put them on the map, shooting to number one on the UK club charts and proving these guys weren’t a one-off.
If you’ve ever tuned into Group Therapy Radio, you already know Above & Beyond’s biggest flex: consistency. The weekly show launched in 2012 as the successor to their long-running Trance Around The World, and it still broadcasts across more than 30 countries every single week. That kind of staying power is rare in this genre, and it’s a huge part of why the “Group Therapy” fanbase feels less like a fandom and more like an actual community.
They’re also not afraid to flip the script on their own sound. In 2013 they stripped everything down for acoustic shows at Porchester Hall in London and the Greek Theatre in LA, and the response was strong enough to turn into a whole era: the Acoustic album in 2014, followed by Acoustic II in 2016. Vocalists like Zoë Johnston, Richard Bedford, and Justine Suissa have been key to that emotional, song-first side of the group for years, and it’s helped earn them two Grammy nominations, for “We’re All We Need” and “Northern Soul.”
Above & Beyond are still very much active. They dropped their album Bigger Than All of Us in 2025, and now they’re gearing up for something massive: Group Therapy 700, a three-day takeover of The Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington happening September 11-13, 2026, celebrating the 700th episode of their radio show. It’s their first time back at that venue since ABGT250 in 2017, a night longtime fans still talk about, and it follows last year’s ABGT600 celebration in Mexico City. Nearly three decades deep, Above & Beyond are still throwing the party.
