Porter Robinson Releases New Single and Music Video “Get Your Wish”

Porter Robinson is really, truly back, and honestly it’s about time.
Porter Robinson is officially back! After six long years since his Worlds album and four years since “Shelter,” he has finally released a new track. “Get Your Wish” is the lead single off his upcoming album Nurture, which he announced yesterday. There is no album release date as of yet, but it has been confirmed that it will be released sometime in 2020. We can’t believe that we can finally say that he has officially returned. Certainly, it has been way too long since we had a new Porter Robinson release.
For anyone keeping score at home, that’s a genuinely brutal wait. Worlds dropped back in 2014 and completely rearranged how a lot of us thought about melodic electronic music, and “Shelter,” his 2016 collab with Madeon, only made the silence that followed feel longer. Fans have spent years piecing together clues from cryptic tweets and half-finished demos, so “Get Your Wish” landing in our laps feels less like a normal single drop and more like an event.
Along with the single is a new music video starring Porter Robinson himself. You can now live the excitement of this wonderful news by watching it.
The video leans into the same warm, personal energy that’s been all over his teasers for this new era, and it’s clearly meant to be a reintroduction as much as a music video. Watching Porter step back in front of the camera after years of relative quiet is its own kind of moment for longtime fans.
Sonically, “Get Your Wish” is a pretty clear signal that this next chapter isn’t going to be a rehash of the anime-tinged bombast that made Worlds such a landmark. It’s softer, more vulnerable, and feels like the sound of an artist figuring things out in real time rather than trying to top himself. That kind of honesty is exactly why people have stuck around waiting for years instead of moving on.
There’s also something fitting about the timing here. Porter has always been open about how brutal the creative process can be for him, and the fact that this single arrives right on the heels of a formal album announcement suggests he finally feels ready to let people in on what he’s been building. For a fanbase that’s been living off scraps of unreleased material and live-set teases for what feels like forever, that alone is worth celebrating.

Editor’s note: At the time of this post, Nurture was expected sometime in 2020. The album ultimately slipped and was released on April 23, 2021.
