Eric Prydz Delivers On His Remix For Camelphat and Cristoph’s – ‘Breathe’
Eric Prydz brought is masterful, show-stopping performance to the desert last weekend, delivering one of the most memorable sets Coachella had seen in quite some time. While his set was critically and fan acclaimed across the board, in typical Prydz nature, the maestro did not rest on his laurels…even briefly.
Prydz has released his official remix of Camelphat and Cristoph’s ‘Breathe’. Prydz takes the already brilliant release and worked in his signature enthralling melodies and captivating structure. Overall this remix is a true breath of fresh air. It is haunting, powerful, energetic and filled with wonderful subtleties.
The original “Breathe” already had serious pedigree behind it before Prydz ever touched it. Camelphat and Cristoph built the track around a soaring vocal from Jem Cooke and released it through Pryda Presents/Ministry of Sound Recordings, and Camelphat in particular has been on an absolute tear in recent years. The duo picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording back in 2018 for their track “Cola” alongside Elderbrook, so their name alone carries some serious weight in dance music circles right now.
What makes this remix extra special is just how selective Prydz is about whose records he touches. He doesn’t hand his name out to just anyone, and this release was widely noted as one of the first official remixes he had put his name on in a good while. Getting a Prydz remix at all is a treat for fans who have followed his career closely; getting one this quickly after a career-defining Coachella set feels like a bonus nobody was expecting.
It also says something about where Prydz’s head is at creatively right now. Rather than leaning on his own back catalog after a huge festival moment, he chose to spend his momentum shining a light on two other producers’ record, which is exactly the kind of scene-first move that has kept him so respected among his peers for as long as he’s been making music.
