Tiesto Dropped An Incredible New ID Collaboration With Shaun Frank At Ultra 2019: LISTEN

Ultra Music Festival is still a memory glowing bright in the back of our heads. The festival ended not even 24 hours ago, but the experts over at 1001 Tracklists are already hard at work idenitfying every song from every single set.

One of the most exciting moments from Day 1, was Tiesto’s powerhouse of a mainstage set. The dance music legend took to the stage and immediately made it known that he meant business. Early on in his set, Tiesto dropped a new collaboration with Shaun Frank, which is still unreleased.

Lucky for you, we have pinpointed the moment in the set when the madness begins. Check out the video below and just wait for the new single to come after a few seconds. We cannot wait until this one gets released!

Tracklist sources logging Tiesto’s Ultra 2019 mainstage set have tagged this one “Mic Check,” though that’s an ID tag rather than a confirmed official title, so treat it as a working name for now. This wasn’t the first time Tiesto and Shaun Frank had crossed paths in the studio either — Shaun Frank has built a serious reputation as a songwriter and producer in his own right, with credits and collaborations across the dance music world, so it’s no surprise the two ended up in the studio together again.

As for what happened to this particular record, we honestly can’t say for certain — we weren’t able to track down an official release under the “Mic Check” name in the time since. What we can confirm is that Tiesto and Shaun Frank’s studio relationship didn’t end there: Shaun Frank went on to get a writing and vocal-production credit on “Careless Whisper,” a track that landed on Tiesto’s 2020 album The London Sessions. Whether that’s the same record that got the Ultra crowd going in this clip, a reworked version of it, or a completely separate collaboration, we genuinely don’t know — but it’s worth mentioning so you’ve got the full picture rather than just an ID that vanishes into the ether.

Either way, that mainstage moment is a perfect example of why chasing IDs at festivals like Ultra is so much fun in the first place. You’re hearing something nobody outside the artist’s inner circle has heard yet, the crowd reaction tells you instantly whether it’s a keeper, and then you get to spend the following weeks (or months, or in this case, years) trying to figure out if and when it’s ever going to see an official release. If you were in the crowd for this one, or if you’ve got better information on where this track ended up, let us know — we’d love to finally close the loop on this one.
