1788-L’s new song FULL/BURST is out now

We were right when we said we didn’t know what to expect from 1788-L’s new single. FULL/BURST features TOTTO and starts with a dark, robot voice. FULL/BURST is the first track off of 1788-L’s EP, Sentience, which is set to be out this month.

TOTTO only put out his first track a couple of months before 1788-L debuted. The two combine their sounds for an interesting mix.

The track starts out with a robotic voice saying: “In the future, all sentient life will have been erased from existence” along with other lines about the human race’s ultimate doom.

Cut to the bass build up and we’re taken off into 1788-L’s signature robotic beats along with the lyrics “machines are forever” repeated throughout the song. The sound is a bit bouncier than what we’ve heard from 1788-L before, but we’re loving it.

1788-L has captured the attention of many EDM fans for a few reasons. One, no one knows who they really are. Two, their sound keeps evolving with every track.

Sentience is set to debut on Zeds Dead‘s label Deadbeats, which will only set it into superstardom.

Sentience Turned Out To Be A Proper Statement Piece

When Sentience actually dropped a few weeks after this, it landed as a tight four-track EP that ended up being one of the more talked-about bass releases on Deadbeats that year. Deadbeats itself was still a relatively young label at that point, built by Zeds Dead specifically to platform artists doing something a little weirder and more forward-thinking than straight festival trap, and 1788-L fit that mission perfectly. The mystery around the artist’s identity only added to the appeal — in an era where most producers are constantly posting selfies and studio clips, staying anonymous while still building a devoted following takes a genuinely distinct sound to pull off.

The robotic, dystopian theming running through FULL/BURST wasn’t just a one-off gimmick either — it carried through the whole Sentience era, tying into 1788-L’s broader aesthetic of cold, machine-like production wrapped around surprisingly emotional song structures. That contrast between icy sound design and real emotional weight is honestly the through-line of a lot of 1788-L’s catalog, and FULL/BURST as the lead single set that tone perfectly for what turned out to be a genuinely cohesive project rather than just a scattered collection of singles.
