Hook N Sling Drops Springtime Anthem 'Shoot Down The Sun'

Australian-born and LA-based beatmaker Hook N Sling has a proven history of hit records to his name. Having released multiple hits including 2017 releases “If You’re Hearing This” and “Arms Around Me” with Digital Farm Animals, among many significant collaborations alongside Dutch tropical house master Sam Feldt and Swedish sea-fox duo Galantis, Hook N Sling now returns with a brand new single “Shoot Down The Sun” out via Astralwerks.

Beginning with a gentle piano intro accompanied by smooth and silky vocals, the track comes packed with bouncy bass, body-moving beats, and a powerful wave of feel-good energy that results in a quintessential singalong tune. Showcasing his artistry for stellar production, “Shoot Down The Sun” is the ultimate warm-weather single.

Astralwerks is a bigger deal than a lot of people realize

Landing a single on Astralwerks matters more than it might look like at first glance — this is the same label that’s been home to acts across every corner of dance and alt-pop for decades, way beyond just EDM singles. For an artist like Hook N Sling who’s mostly built his name through collabs and features, getting a solo single out on a label with that kind of reach is a genuine step up, not just another release.

Feature-heavy careers versus solo statements

It’s easy to get typecast as “the collab guy” once you’ve had a few hits attached to other people’s names, even if you were the one actually producing the track. “Shoot Down The Sun” reads like Hook N Sling making a point of stepping back into the spotlight on his own, no featured artist splitting the credit, just his production and a vocal that isn’t the star of a bigger name’s rollout. That’s a different kind of statement than another Sam Feldt or Galantis collab, even if the sound itself stays in a similar tropical-pop lane.

Building a “summer song” catalog on purpose

Hook N Sling’s discography reads like someone who figured out early on exactly what season he wanted to soundtrack. Piano-led intros, silky vocals, bouncy low end — that formula shows up again and again across his catalog, and “Shoot Down The Sun” fits right into it. There’s something to be said for an artist who commits fully to one mood instead of chasing whatever’s trending that month, and by this point in his career it’s clearly working for him.
