Louis The Child Teams Up With Wafia For Delicious New Single – ‘Better Not’
I have always been a huge fan of Louis The Child. The two-member production duo has always created unique tracks which stand out from the pack, and not surprisingly their latest release continues that trend. This time the guys have teamed up with Future Classic favorite Wafia to produce a truly one of a kind track called ‘Better Not’.
Instead of just cranking out another future bass tune, Louis The Child took time to create a more subtle listening experience. The track allows Wafia’s vocals to stand out as the star, as they are perfectly supported by the steel drum meets xylophone riff that will have you automatically nodding your head as the groove of this tune penetrates your soul. As hard as I try it is quite difficult to put just how cool and innovative this track is. Louis The Child have once again shown that they are at the forefront of the next evolution of dance music. Who’s Behind ‘Better Not’
Louis The Child is the Chicago duo of Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett, and by 2018 they’d already built a reputation as one of future bass’s most reliable hitmakers. Wafia, on the other hand, brought a different energy to the table. The Australian singer-songwriter is signed to Future Classic, the same label behind Flume and Chet Faker, and she’s built her career lending her voice to left-of-center pop and dance collaborations rather than chasing straight-up pop stardom. Pairing her with Louis The Child made a lot of sense on paper, and the finished product backs that up.
The Song Had Legs
‘Better Not’ wasn’t just a one-and-done release either. Louis The Child and Wafia followed it up later in 2018 with an official remix package along with a stripped-down acoustic version, both of which are still streaming today. For a track that started out as a low-key summer highlight, that kind of afterlife says a lot about how much staying power the song actually had.
Why It Worked
Part of the reason ‘Better Not’ landed the way it did comes down to restraint.
