MYRNE is rising fast in the ranks of the electronic music world. While we have seen countless singles and many thought-provoking EPs from the artist up until today we were yet to see a full long-play from the fusion artist. That all changed with the release of ‘B4NGER PROJECT', a 10 track album that was created in collaboration with Singapore based singer-songwriter Gentle Bones.
Bridging The Gap
In this day and age, it is usually considered a bad thing for a dance artist to explore a pop sound. It is associated with high profile featuring credits and selling out to appeal to a wider audience. MYRNE has beautifully demonstrated in his latest project that the pop sound can be seamlessly integrated with the electronic styles while still maintaining a unique and thoughtful production quality.
‘B4NGER PROJECT' is vocally driven at its core, and with each new song that comes up in the rotation, the listener gets a bit more of an understanding of the artist's creative process. While some songs are introspective and will instantly remind you of love lost, others will have you grooving where ever you're at with a smile on your face.
Standouts
‘HEART8REAK' is one of my favorite records on the LP. The slow and pensive beat mixed with the powerful lyrics had me thinking about my 8th-grade crush and missed opportunities. Like that time she locked eyes with me at the school dance, and my anxiety hit the roof and instead of asking her to dance, I called my mom to pick me up early. I am sure everyone can relate. No? Well whatever, I was a late bloomer.
‘B4NGER' on the other hand is an upbeat tune which features beautiful instrumentation. Melodic guitar and piano riffs meld perfectly with the silky vocals giving the track an almost Jason Mraz-esque vibe. It is truly the kind of tune that finds a perfect home as Spring starts to shift into Summer.
In The End…
