Dimitri Vegas & Like vs. Vini Vici vs. Cherrymoon Trax – ‘The House of House’
Today we have the pleasure of bringing you even more psytrance. DV&LM who will never see this because they blocked up on Twitter, teamed up with Vini Vici and Cherrymoon Trax to create a truly one of a kind monster mash up known as ‘The House of House’. The tune is firmly rooted in the psytrance paradigm and is a real showstopper. We heard this at Ultra last weekend during Vini Vici’s set and are thrilled to be able to add it to our personal libraries with its official release.
This track drives harder than anyone could have imagined. During a pensive melodic break, tension is so perfectly mounted and built that it will no doubt give you goosebumps. A hypnotic chanting vocal sample is repeated in a manner over a building beat that is entirely euphoria-inducing. When it all let’s go again the listener is met with a brutal psytrance beat with a buzzsaw synth. This is a truly one of a kind psytrance tune. Check it out below.
The Original “House Of House” Is A Belgian New Beat Classic
The title and vocal hook aren’t random either. Cherrymoon Trax’s original “The House of House” dates back to 1988, right out of the Belgian new beat scene that Cherrymoon Trax helped define. Reworking a track that old for a psytrance crowd is a bold move, but it fits the trend of psytrance and big room producers digging into vintage house and new beat records for samples that already have decades of dancefloor history behind them.
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have leaned into nostalgia plays like this plenty of times in their sets, and pairing up with Vini Vici, who’ve become one of the biggest names bridging psytrance with the mainstage festival circuit, made this a natural fit for their collaborative catalog. Mashing a nearly 30-year-old Belgian club record into a modern psytrance stomper is exactly the kind of genre-blending curveball that keeps a track like this memorable long after the festival set it debuted in has ended.
Three-way collaborations like this one don’t happen every day, especially when they cross that many subgenres of dance music at once. It takes a real understanding of what makes an old sample still hit on a modern mainstage rig, and this one clearly worked well enough live at Ultra to justify the official studio release that followed shortly after.
