Porter Robinson Announces 3 Hour Virtual Self Set As Official Ultra After Party
Porter Robinson has been blowing fans away with his new Virtual Self moniker. The alias brings with it a powerful new sound which has breathed new life into a world of dance music which began to suffer from repetition. Back in December the Virtual Self live show was debuted in Brooklyn and immediately people fell in love with brilliant new take on electronic music. Since then an EP, music video and entire new world has been introduced to us, further the captivating lore that is Virtual Self.
Now Porter has announced a massive Virtual Self event. After Ultra Music Festival concludes on Friday, March 23rd – the real party begins. At The Ground Miami a 3 hour Virtual Self set will take place with support from RAITO. Tickets go on sale tomorrow March 8th at 1pm EST. You can purchase them here. Virtual Self Became A Fixture Of Porter’s Live Shows
This 3-hour Ultra after party format turned out to be a great fit for the Virtual Self concept, giving Porter the room to build out the immersive visual and sonic world he’d created without being confined to a standard festival set length. The extended-set approach became something Porter leaned into repeatedly for Virtual Self appearances going forward, treating each show less like a typical DJ set and more like a full audiovisual experience built around the alias’s distinct trance and eurodance-influenced sound.
A Deliberate Contrast To His Porter Robinson Solo Work
Virtual Self’s rollout, culminating in events like this one, worked precisely because it felt so different from Porter’s main solo project, trading his more melodic, emotionally driven Porter Robinson sound for a harder-edged, nostalgia-soaked take on trance and hardcore. Giving the alias its own dedicated live events rather than folding it into his regular sets let both sides of his artistry breathe independently, and this Ultra after party was an early sign of just how much appetite there was for Virtual Self as its own standalone thing.
