When first hearing DJ and producer Demicat, I was flooded with a feeling of rejuvenation, hope, and sonic gratification. His song “Levitation” is aptly named, to say the least. Demicat fuses cyberpunk aesthetics with traditional oriental sounds, even going so far as to literally mix the two. What I mean by this is that the raw ancient sound is put through a futuristic filter, presenting a blending of tradition and revolution.
The drums are also reminiscent of this mixture, suggesting both rave and psychedelic/shamanic vibes. The oriental flute and strings complement the heavy electronic sounds perfectly, and the song really appreciates and owns its own balance. The final note on the flute played at the end leaves one with a feeling of awe. To me, it is truly a celebration of the human spirit, and of human potential. Maybe that is why it’s called ‘Levitation.'
