Steve Aoki Returns To His Pure EDM Form With ‘All Night’

Steve Aoki has teamed up with Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui for his latest single ‘All Night’. Aoki took a ton of time off from touring in the first half of 2017 to focus on his last LP, ‘Kolony’. The album was a major departure from the style which Aoki has aligned with himself over the last decade. It was a full on fushion of dance music and hip hop and critically was more successful than anyone could’ve guessed.
In his latest release Steve has returned to the EDM world in full force. Tapping a top female voclaist the track is definitely centered in a pop almost tropical vibe. It is definitely not what we would expect from Aoki who continues to play around with new styles with each release. Check it out below.
Lauren, who was still an official member of Fifth Harmony at the time, brought a totally different energy to the track than the rappers and MCs Aoki had been working with on ‘Kolony’. Her vocals give ‘All Night’ a dreamy, almost cinematic quality that pairs perfectly with the shimmering, tropical-leaning production Aoki built around her. It’s a reminder that even after over a decade in the game, Aoki is still one of the more unpredictable names in dance music — you genuinely never know what lane he’s going to pull from next.
The collaboration also came with a music video, giving fans a visual to match the mood of the record, and it marked one of Jauregui’s higher-profile outings outside of her group work at the time. For Aoki, ‘All Night’ served as a nice palate cleanser after the heavier, hip-hop leaning sound of ‘Kolony’ — proof that he can pivot right back into the pop-EDM lane that made him a household name in the first place.
Whether this is a sign of more radio-ready material to come from Aoki or just a one-off experiment remains to be seen, but for now, ‘All Night’ is a solid addition to his already massive catalog. Give it a spin below and let us know what you think.
