Street Performer Gives Odesza A Wild Remix Using Only An Empty Bucket: Watch

Good old Derek Vincent Smith, Mr. Pretty Lights himself is always bringing us gems of the musical world. Pretty Lights was exploring the city of Chicago today when we came across someone who was demonstrating some real talent with nothing but an empty bucket and a pair of drumsticks. Freelance drummer, FREEDLY set up shop on a street corner and went to work giving Odesza a wild live remix.
Pretty Lights went so far to put FREEDLY not only on Twitter but also on his Instagram story. We love seeing innovative artists changing things up in any venue, even if it’s just public space. Check out the video below and make sure to share this and tag FREEDLY in it.
Hopefully Odesza will see it and bring this wild man out on tour as part of the legendary drum line.

Bucket Drumming Is A Real Craft
Moments like this happen more than people realize, buckets have basically become their own instrument in busking culture, especially in big cities like Chicago and New York where street drummers set up on corners and subway platforms every single day. What makes clips like FREEDLY’s stand out isn’t just the novelty of the setup, it’s that he was clearly reworking a specific, recognizable Odesza groove on the fly using nothing but a plastic bucket and a pair of sticks. That takes real ear training and rhythm, not just noise-making.
Why This Kind Of Moment Matters
It also says a lot about Odesza’s reach that their production style translates this cleanly onto a completely different instrument on a random street corner. The duo built their sound on layered, percussive samples in the first place, so hearing that DNA show up in a live bucket remix isn’t as much of a stretch as it might seem. And with someone as plugged into the scene as Pretty Lights amplifying the clip, FREEDLY got a shot at way more visibility than a typical street performance would ever generate on its own, even if a tour spot with Odesza never actually materialized.
