Listen To The Monster Confirmed Collaboration Between Zhu and Ekali Played At Life Is Beautiful
These two producers are absolutely destroying the electronic music scene at the moment. While one producer is rising quickly in the bass music arena, the other has a death grip on the dark tech house sound which he has curated since his mysterious beginnings. Ekali and Zhu have been each teasing this track consistently in their sets but up until now we have had no idea what it was.
On the /r/trap subreddit Ekali finally broke the News that it is in fact an OG collaboration between the two artists. This is some incredible news to hear that these two have teamed up. The track is absolutely ridiculous, and contains some of the most exicintg production elements we have heard in quite some time. Check out the teaser clip below.
Both Zhu and Ekali have made a habit of sitting on unreleased material for what feels like forever before actually dropping it, so this one is no exception. Fans in the Life Is Beautiful crowd out in Las Vegas caught the first live tease of the record, and it didn’t take long for clips to start circulating on Reddit with everyone trying to piece together exactly who was behind it and what the track was even called.
It’s easy to see why this pairing makes sense on paper, too. Zhu built his name on that moody, vocal-driven, tech-house-adjacent sound that made “Faded” impossible to escape a few years back, while Ekali has spent his run carving out a lane in bass music that blends trap low end with melodic, almost dreamy production. Put those two sensibilities in the same room and you get exactly the kind of dark, weird, but still club-ready energy fans in the clip below are losing it over.
For what it’s worth, this collaboration would eventually see an official release under a different title than the one floating around here. Zhu and Ekali’s full-length team-up ultimately dropped as “Blame,” a moodier, vocal-forward cut that carries a lot of the same dark tech-house DNA fans heard teased at Life Is Beautiful. So if “Monster” doesn’t ring a bell for you now, that’s likely why — the track appears to have been retitled, reworked, or both by the time it actually saw a proper release.
Either way, moments like this are exactly why it pays to keep an ear out during festival sets. Half the time the biggest collabs in dance music get confirmed not through a press release, but through some blurry phone-camera clip and a Reddit thread full of people arguing about who’s actually playing.
