Skrillex Releases Official Music For Collaboration With Poo Bear, ‘Would You Ever’
Skrillex released his collaboration with Justin Bieber’s songwriter, Poo Bear about a month ago now. While the track is absolutely excellent, catchy and fun, it caught a lot of flack for not involving Skrillex’s bass heavy productions. Die hard fans were expecting a head banging anthem but instead got a deep house track. Once everyone calmed down a bit, most realized that ‘Would You Ever’ was absolutely awesome.
Poo Bear isn’t just some random name tacked onto a Skrillex record, either. He’s the guy behind some of Justin Bieber’s biggest smashes, including “Sorry,” “What Do You Mean” and “Company,” so the man knows exactly how to build a hook that sticks in your head for days. On “Would You Ever” he trades in the pop sheen for something a little warmer and more soulful, laying down deep, rich vocals over a funky, chopped up hook that leans way more toward classic house music than anything resembling a drop. It’s proof that Skrillex has been quietly stepping outside the brostep box that made him famous ever since “Recess,” dabbling in moombahton, trap, and now full on deep house.

The visual itself is basically a love letter to sunny SoCal streets. It follows a shirtless skateboarder cruising and landing tricks through Los Angeles, with Skrillex and Poo Bear popping up around the 2:18 mark to soak up the same feel good energy as the track itself. There’s no elaborate storyline here, just good light, good vibes, and a soundtrack that matches the mood beat for beat.
If you slept on “Would You Ever” back when it dropped because you were holding out for another bass heavy banger, now’s the time to go back and give it a real listen. Sometimes the best move an artist can make is the one nobody sees coming, and Skrillex proved that all over again with this one.
