Varun Sets Bar High With Remix of Martin Garrix “There For You”
After garnering over 3 million streams of his collab with AVE & EFX and LA James, Varun has returned with a new remix that is sure to turn some heads. The Icon Collective graduate who’s first official remix was released on Ultra Records, is based out of LA and been captivated by electronic music since age 16. His love and passion for music has driven his success and led him to share the stage with acts such as Above & Beyond, Dada Life, Arty, Nicky Romero, Tritonal, Morgan Page, Cash Cash, TJR, Benny Benassi and many more.
His lastest effort is a well crafted future bass remix of the hit single “There For You” by none other than, Martin Garrix. Varun’s remix incorporates a triplet based synth pattern the gives this track a super laid back feel while maintaining an engaged energy. Taking on a Martin Garrix record is no small task. “There For You,” his collaboration with Troye Sivan, was one of the biggest crossover pop-dance singles of that era, and it eventually spawned an entire official remix pack loaded with big names. Getting your own take noticed in the middle of all that attention takes a remix that actually brings something different to the table, and that’s exactly what Varun does here by leaning future bass instead of trying to out-drop the original.
That triplet-based synth work mentioned above is really the signature of this remix. Instead of chopping up Troye Sivan’s vocal into a big room-style buildup, Varun lets it breathe over a bouncier, more melodic backdrop, which fits the emotional tone of the original lyrics a lot better than a straight club edit would. It’s the kind of remix that works just as well through headphones on a late night drive as it does in a set, which is a tough balance for a lot of producers still finding their sound.
It’s also worth pointing out how much groundwork Varun had already put in before this one landed. Graduating from Icon Collective and then getting an official release on Ultra Records right out of the gate isn’t the typical path, and being self-taught into the scene at 16 and turning that into main support slots for acts like Tritonal and Cash Cash within a few years says a lot about how quickly he’s developed as both a producer and a performer.
