Kayzo Calls Out Unknown Producer For Entirely Ripping Off One Of His Biggest Hits

Kayzo is one of the hottest names in dance music at the moment. The producer/DJ has seen growth in 2017 that is almost unparalleled. When you start to succeed though, more issues start to arise, one of which is plagiarism and infringement of your artistic expression.
Kayzo took to Twitter to publicly call out an unknown producer for ripping his track ‘Wake Up’ to the tee. The weirdest part is that the producer didn’t even really deny it. He just kind of sheepishly tried to make a joke. We didn’t even want to give this guy any publicity so we did not include his Soundcloud embed. If you want to find it you can look below in the tweets. Instead you can check out Kayzo and RIOT’s monster collab, ‘Wake Up’ once again.
I'm flattered you found wake up so inspirational that you ripped the whole song man https://t.co/FiULt9BhHK

Both Sides of the Story
To be clear, this whole thing played out as a public accusation, not a confirmed legal finding — Kayzo said the other producer’s track was a note-for-note copy of ‘Wake Up,’ his collaboration with RIOT, and called him out directly over it on Twitter. The producer in question, going by the name “max mucus,” didn’t deny making a nearly identical track, but responded in a pretty low-key way, framing it as just making music for fun and saying he didn’t mean to upset anyone. He didn’t offer up a detailed explanation of how the similarities happened, and there’s no indication this ever escalated into an actual copyright claim or takedown beyond the Twitter exchange.
Producer call-outs like this happen more than fans might realize in dance music, especially as more people get access to the same sample packs, presets and production tutorials that can make tracks sound eerily similar even without direct theft. Kayzo’s frustration here is understandable given how identifiable ‘Wake Up’ already was within the scene, but with no formal resolution ever made public, it’s worth remembering this stayed a one-sided callout rather than something adjudicated anywhere beyond social media.
