Steve Aoki Announces A Departure From EDM With New Hip Hop Album ‘Kolony’

Steve Aoki is a name synonymous with dance music. The now legendary DJ got his start with high profile remixes and insanely catchy originals. Now he has announced a departure from electronic dance music with his new album, ‘Kolony'.

Steve Aoki Goes Hip Hop

Steve released a little info on the new album including a list of collaborators and it is filled with the biggest names in today's rap world. Just some of the names to be featured on the new LP are Migos, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 2 Chainz, Wale, and more. Steve Aoki also explained where the name came from.

“When I was in the studio working on this project or a song with someone that made it to the album, they brought their own crew, and I’d turn around and be like, ‘this squad is like a colony. We’re like a colony, because it just felt like the energy in the room was more vibrant. It was a lot of energy from people flowing from the studio, and I loved that think tank, that group collaboration, and spirit.”

We are hoping that this album turns out to be a sleeper hit. That being said his first release off of it, which came last Friday felt a bit forced. We will have to wait until July 21st to find out.
