REZZ Drops Amazing Remix of Madeon and Porter’s ‘Shelter’, Listen Here

Rezz is literally becoming one of the hottest stars in dance music at the moment. She is so on point many of her productions are garnering more interest than Mau5trap label boss Deadmau5. Her unique blend of rowdy bass and euphoric house has given her a following that is downright cult-like.

In her Bonnaroo set this past weekend she started out with some serious heat. Ripping in with bass driven bangers, Rezz transitions at 3:13 to her remix of Madeon and Porter’s epic collaboration ‘Shelter’. With an almost trip hop beat and heavy synths through out…this one is going to be a massive hit. Check it out below (again – starting at 3:13).
For those who somehow haven’t heard the original yet, ‘Shelter’ dropped back in August 2016 as the one and only official collaboration between Porter Robinson and Madeon, two producers who actually met as young teenagers on an online music production forum before becoming close friends. The track pairs Robinson’s processed vocals (recorded with singer Amy Millan) against Madeon’s own lead vocals, and it went on to earn a Gold certification in the US along with a beautiful 6-minute animated short from Japanese studio A-1 Pictures that followed a girl named Rin living alone in a simulated world. It’s one of those tracks that basically became a genre-bending anthem, so hearing an artist as left-field as Rezz take it on is a pretty big deal.
Her flip strips away a lot of that airy, saccharine sweetness and replaces it with the murky, bass-heavy low end she’s built her whole sound around. Instead of the bright, chopped-vocal euphoria of the original, you get something darker and more hypnotic, more suited for one of her signature strobe-lit, headbanging sets than a festival main stage sing-along. It’s a genuinely clever reinterpretation, not just a remix for the sake of slapping her name on a popular record, and it lines up with everything else Rezz has been doing this year to prove she’s more than just Deadmau5’s protégé.
