The Chainsmokers have achieved yet another first in their career, this time they are topping the Billboard Artist 100 for the first time.
According to Billboard, “The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.”
The Chainsmokers are topping the #1 spot by making Ed Sheeran step down to #2 after five nonconsecutive weeks holding the lead position. Drake and Bruno Mars were also forced to each step down a rung. The Chainsmokers placed #1 after charting a 263% increase in their activity over the past week.
This is all in the aftermath of the release of their debut album, ‘Memories… Do Not Open' which debuted the same week. Despite mass criticism from many fans and music outlets alike they still sit atop the Billboard 200. Thanks to another week of strong track sales and streams, the album will still remain prominently position on the Billboard 200, though it seems that a lot of the initial luster of the album has indeed worn off.
Congratulations to The Chainsmokers for this career defining moment and make sure to keep up to date with all of the latest in electronic music with us over at EDM Sauce!
