Mau5trap Drops Their 6th Volume of ‘We Are Friends’ Compilation This Friday
Mau5trap is taking over electronic music at an incredibly quick pace. Their label boss Deadmau5 is easily one of the greatest electronic musicians of all time. They have helped give life to countless superstars from Skrillex to Madeon. Now their up-and-coming acts are making waves of their own, with artists such as Rezz and ATTLAS starting to embark on international tours with full critical acclaim.
Now the label is dropping a stunning compilation with the sixth edition of their hallowed “We Are Friends” on Friday. The tracklist is full of hot new tracks from all the names you would expect. Some of the most notable are Deadmau5 and ATTLAS’ “bad at titles” as well as newcomer Black Gummy’s VIP of his dark anthem “Descent.”
One of the more unexpected tracks is from Rinzen. “Renegade” is a powerful effort from an artist who is relatively unknown on the scene. You might recognize his name from his official remix of Giorgio Moroder, but now the artist has come into his own with beautiful original production. Beyond the highlights above, this volume brought together a genuinely deep bench of Mau5trap talent, including Blue Mora, Dom Kane, Draft, Eddie, Enzo Bennet, HolyU, Monstergetdown, Neus, No Mana, Notaker, Oliver Winters, Robert Oaks, SevenDoors, Tinlicker, and Grabbitz, alongside the Deadmau5, ATTLAS, Black Gummy, and Rinzen cuts already mentioned. It’s a real snapshot of how deep the Mau5trap roster had gotten by early 2017, well beyond just the headline names on the flyer.
The compilation dropped right on schedule that Friday, continuing a series that had become one of the more reliable ways for the label to spotlight rising producers alongside its established stars. For an imprint that started as basically a vanity outlet for Deadmau5’s own material, “We Are Friends” turned into one of the better annual check-ins on where underground electronic music was heading, and volume six was no exception. Fans used these compilations as a yearly discovery tool, often finding their next favorite up-and-coming producer buried a few tracks deep in the list.
