Avicii Previews New Material On Instagram
After retiring last year from his DJ career, Avicii has taken the time to share snippets of him in the process of creating new music on Instagram. The clips show what looks to be the creation of his third forthcoming album. The Swedish DJ announced the follow-up to his 2015 album ‘Stories’ after his split from his manager, Ash Pournouri.
Avicii announced he was stepping away from touring back in 2016, citing the toll the road had taken on his health, but he made clear at the time that stepping off stage didn’t mean stepping away from music. Splitting from Pournouri, his manager since the earliest days of his career, was a significant shift — the two had been closely tied to nearly every major Avicii release up to that point, so a new chapter without him signaled a genuinely new creative direction.

In the studio, Avicii shared many behind the scenes clips on his Instagram story. He has revealed that he is hard at work creating this new album, adding some of his vocal-heavy sound to the material.
That vocal-forward, pop-leaning sound had already defined a lot of ‘Stories,’ and fans in the comments were quick to point out that these new snippets sounded like a continuation of that direction rather than a return to his earlier, more electronic-leaning production from the ‘True’ era. Getting even a few seconds of a studio session on Instagram was enough to set off speculation about features, release dates and the overall sound of the record.
‘Stories’ hadn’t matched the chart heights of his 2013 debut ‘True,’ but singles like “Waiting for Love” and “Broken Arrows” kept Avicii firmly in rotation at radio and on tour despite the shift away from full-time touring. Fans hoping for a proper follow-up treated every Instagram clip like a breadcrumb, and this round of studio snippets was no exception.
