Skrillex Got A Horrifying Gift From Jared Leto

It might be surprising to have some more news about Suicide Squad to report now that the movie is a few months old. Yet Skrillex had a few more surprises to reveal about his relationship with Jared Leto. Jared who played the Joker in both the movie and SKrillex’s video for his “Purple Lamborghini” was known for sending gifts to his other members of Suicide Squad from anal beads to dead rats. Well I guess he wanted to get Skrillex in on the fun and sent him (according to his interview with Complex), “the largest black dildo” as well as a non specified “box of other weird shit”.

Skrillex also revealed in the interview that the studio was thinking of just using movie clips for the Music Video to ‘Purple Lamborghini”, but the artist demanded that Leto be involved in some way. Apparently getting deep into character for Leto is quite the process but he eventually agreed as him and SKrillex are the best of friends. Well this entire interview has made me rethink a relationship with method actors entirely. Take a look at the video below and check out some of our favorite remixes of PL as well.

Leto’s habit of sending gag gifts to cast members wasn’t a one-off — it was part of the whole in-character bit he committed to throughout production, and by the time Suicide Squad wrapped, plenty of his co-stars had their own weird-package stories to tell. Skrillex getting looped into that after the fact, once he and Leto had become friends through the “Purple Lamborghini” collaboration, is very on brand for the whole thing. It’s less about the movie and more about just how far Leto took the bit off-camera.

As for the song itself, “Purple Lamborghini” landed on the “Suicide Squad: The Album” soundtrack, and the video followed in early August 2016 with Leto reprising his Joker role alongside Skrillex and Rick Ross. It’s part of why the track had such a long shelf life after the movie left theaters — between the Joker cameo and the strength of the beat, it kept getting picked up by remixers well into the fall. One of the better ones still floating around is the SHVRDZ remix, embedded below. A couple of the other early remixes that used to be posted alongside this story have since been pulled from SoundCloud by their uploaders, so we’ve left those out rather than link to dead tracks.
