There is no doubt 2016 festival season is officially underway. Coachella has come and gone, the Hard Summer lineup has been released, and our EDC Las Vegas trailer is here. But amidst all the laser light shows and massive crowds, there is something truly magical, and undeniably unique nestled right in the middle of the golden state of California, in the small town of Bradley. We are of course referring to Lightning in a Bottle, a yearly festival presented by The Do Lab.
Once a year the festival sprouts from the lake bed of the San Antonio Recreation Area, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Taking place May 25 through 30, Lightning in a Bottle spans over five days. While the majority of the music acts perform on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, it is hardly the only thing that draws the tens of thousands of spiritual minds out into the desert. Pema Khandro, a leading Tibetan Buddhist teacher, humanitarian and scholar, as well as David Wolfe, a well-known health and wellness expert, are just two of the many brilliant guest speakers to grace The Lucent Temple of Consciousness with their worldly knowledge this year. Sound healing, ritual performances, spoken word and multimedia art are just a few examples of the other evening experiences you may stumble upon walking the festival grounds.
The Do Lab pride themselves on their eco-friendliness and sustainability, being the only festival in the United States to have won the “Outstanding Award” from A Greener Festival five years in a row. This is accomplished through a multi-faceted effort to reduce environmental impact and conserve wherever possible: stages include efficient LED lighting wherever possible, free water to eliminate plastic bottle waste, and workshops and speakers to educate its attendees on how to create a more sustainable world and live a healthier life through provoking talks and hands-on projects.
This year features names such as Chet Faker, Moderat, Big Gigantic, Mija, Cashmere Cat, Autograf, Four Tet, Lane 8 and so much more. Lightning in a Bottle is an all-encompassing, unique, and enchanting experience. If you’re tired of the overhyped crowds or standard over-the-top sensory-overload approach of other dance music festivals or simply want to try something new, Lightning in a Bottle is for you.
