“I remember the days when we would do delays by hand,” recalls Laidback Luke.
The technology of DJ equipment has evolved with the changing times and some of the most revered disc jockeys have seen it all – from the beginning of spinning vinyl to the DJM 500 in the 90's, we've come a long way.
In this new 3-part documentary from Pioneer Electronics (which is a total of 16 minutes long), Laidback Luke, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez, DJ Shadow, Skream, and Paul Oakenfold discuss plenty of important topics about the evolution of electronic music and how technology has changed the role of the DJ – mostly concerning mixers and turntables.
The first video talks about a changing of the guard in the industry and how the times have changed. Paul Oakenfold even admits, “I think when you put something between you and the crowd, you lose something special.”
In part two, Pioneer's great products come to fruition. Many artists discuss their first impressions of modern DJ Equipment that we still use.
“In 2004, I think I was the first North American DJ to really test the DDJ,” Shadow says. “It was an opportunity to demonstrate something completely new to people.”
