Thero Delivers a Scorching Remix of The Chainsmokers’ “Let You Go”
Hot off the heels of his chart-topping “Problems Problems” remix, Thero is back, yet again, with his take on The Chainsmokers’ smash, “Let You Go.” The producer has definitely taken the track to the coastline and given it some sea legs, but by no means has it become a beach bum. By combining the best of the tropical house sounds and some pleasantly bass-y elements, he’s crafted a mature and refined remix that’s fit for the pool party as much as it is an opening set. Subtle edits to the vocals bring things down to an intimate level, simple guitar sets a slightly edgy tone, and the melody is damned infectious. The original “Let You Go” comes off The Chainsmokers’ Bouquet EP, which dropped in early 2015 right as the duo were starting to make the jump from novelty-single guys (yes, that song) into a group that could actually build a catalog. Tropical house was having a real moment around this same stretch of 2015 — Kygo, Thomas Jack, and a wave of SoundCloud producers were busy proving that steel drums and marimba could hang just fine next to a big room drop — and remixes like this one were a big part of how that sound spread from a handful of blogs into something festival bookers actually had to pay attention to.
Looking back, it’s kind of wild to think how far The Chainsmokers would go from here — within about a year they’d have “Roses” and then “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Closer” turning them into one of the biggest pop-adjacent acts on the planet, radio ubiquity and arena tours included. A deep cut like “Let You Go” is a good reminder that even the biggest acts have plenty of lower-key tracks in the catalog worth revisiting.
Thero had already built some momentum with his “Problems Problems” remix before this one dropped, and you can hear the same fingerprints here — a producer who clearly prefers restraint over just piling on more drops. That’s not always the easiest sell in a scene that rewards the loudest, most obvious moments, but remixes like this one tend to have a longer shelf life precisely because they don’t wear out their welcome after the third listen.
