Skream – Still Lemonade

I usually try to dig deeper than the front page of Beatport when scouting for tracks, but sometimes you can’t resist. Skream has been one of the most prestigious artists in dance music. He’d unquestionably be on the dubstep Mt. Rushmore as one of the genres chief innovators and he’s had one of the most successful rebrandings in the industry as he effortlessly switched his productions to house music. Finding a new home on Damian Lazarus’ prolific Crosstown Rebels label, Skream is elevating his sound yet again and its just keeps getting better.

Skream!

Skream’s first couple entries into the house scene leaned heavily on the disco spectrum, especially with Rollercoaster and his remix of Need U (100%), but he’s steadily adopting a harder sound. Still Lemonade sounds like Maceo Plex meets Cirez D, with the epic and relentlessly progressive melodies and banging beat. The track is exhilarating as it is thought provoking, and truly does a great Job at melding the worlds of progressive and techno. Included is the remix by Germany’s up and comer, Redshape, who accentuates the techno vibe even more with his heavier and darker version. Tunes like Still Lemonade make you wish that all artists stand the test of time as well as Skream. Easily one of the coolest tunes of the year so far.
